Josh

My brother Josh just wrapped up his high school studies so we had to take some pictures to put on the invite.

This was Josh's favorite, so we used it on the invite.

Relaxing on the porch swing.

Boots in focus.

Well, anyway that is my attempt at awesome senior portraits. We are planning on taking some more at some different locations with different outfits so we shall see how it goes. Just a fun fact: The shirt he is wearing is the one Cynthia and I got him in Hawaii for Christmas. :)

Puppy

No longer afraid of the camera, our little explorer trots right up to it as I try to get decent pictures of him.

Suzanne is absolutely thrilled to have a puppy. She is determined that he will be well trained.

He is only 10 weeks old a quite the armful. I don't think he will be carried around too much longer.

He is the most laid back puppy I have ever met. Poor thing gets very worn out with all the walks and such my family takes him on.

Oh, maybe you'd like to know what his name is? Well, they have been calling him Sackett...I am not sure if it was ever decided what his "full" name would be.

And just in case anyone was curious he is a St. Bernard Great Pyrenees mix. In other words BIG!

If anyone is interested in seeing a few portraits of me...taken by an incredible artist...head on over to http://snapped-it.blogspot.com/. I like them pretty well, I love the fact that they were taken in front of my Grandma's barn! Thanks so much Seth!

Life...

Yesterday was a crazy introduction back into "real" life.

First thing I was informed that my car did not have insurance yet for the summer...I was planning on driving it. Then I was faced with the so many cars and none to drive dilemma. When I finally got a car I went to talk to the editor of the paper. On my way I dropped Cynthia off to work and saw a fire truck. I shamelessly followed it out of town before I lost it and gave up.

Chatted about class and assignments for awhile at the paper and then stopped by the local winery for some blossomtime shots. I had promised myself last year that I would take pictures of fruit blossoms this year but then I was in Texas through peak so I am trying to make up for lost time by shooting whatever is left. Problem no CF card or battery in camera. DUH! Go to get them out of my bag and get a call from Cynthia. She had a library patron tell her that a semi truck tipped over outside of town and almost took out buildings. Jump in car and head to site. Sure enough it was just like she said. Shot a bunch of shots of the scene and clean up for the paper and interviewed the police officer in charge for a write up.

I was overjoyed to be able to use some of the concepts I learned last week. Will and Mandy would be so happy because I "got close" "talked to people" and tried for "cause and effect shots".

After shooting and driving home to upload my images I called the editor to see about a deadline. Thankfully, I didn't need to get the picture and write up turned in until this morning. Then it was off to help my aunt and uncle finish moving. My siblings had spent a lot of time helping while I was gone but we needed to make a few more van runs in order to completely empty the old house. I had trouble with the brakes while doing that so after working and eating I took it easy coming home.

Mom and Dad called to say they had bought a puppy. I was not too sure about that plan. But we all stayed up to wait for them of course. Good thing I didn't hop in the shower because I got a call saying that dad needed the van, gas, chains, and boys. To make things worse he had just picked up the station wagon from the mechanics' that morning! I ended up pulling him about 6 or 7 miles until we made it to the mechanics' where we left the wagon. Puppy is amazingly calm. Good thing!

This morning all the dogs were introduced. They like each other but have you ever tried to take a good picture of three dogs? Just for kicks what kind of puppy do you think he is? (Haley family can not answer that question)

So "real" life keeps moving and today certainly didn't slow down any. I got up and going. Laundry was begging to be caught up. Did my work for the paper and turned it in. Took the puppy to go meet Cynthia's coworkers. Picked up the house. Mixed up food for this evening. Ate lunch with Cynthia and Zech in town. Met some friends and went to Stover's to get some of those blossom pictures I am so desperate for. Dropped them off and came home. Did more food prep, cleaning, laundry, and picture/computer stuff. Had a great time with the family who came for dinner...including begging portraits from an incredible photographer. :) Maybe you shall get to see some...now I am working to unwind as my brain screams at me the many things I need/want to do with the rest of the week. I feel as though my "to do" list hasn't even been touched and yet it will just keep growing.

I must go to bed but I leave you with a picture I took today that reminds me of spring and summer. The weather was beyond gorgeous today and I enjoyed it.

Back from photojournalism

I do not know if I can even explain my week at the IPS Photojournalism class. Words just do not do it justice...but I will try anyway. This week was full, long, short, amazing, incredible, hard, wonderful, stressful, tiring, challenging, great...I know that many of these words conterdict each other but they are all true. I had an awesome class full of great people and two absolutely amazing instructors. We were able to witness the Lord's might, power, grace and abudant blessing as He worked through us giving us His strength for our weakness. This was a class that I will never forget, it has changed my life.

Not my most dynamic image but I am in it and it has a fun story. While shooting COMMIT for my assignment we were told that there was a tornado headed our way and needed to take shelter in the bathrooms. Will handed me Mandy's very nice wide angle lens and told me to go with them. I was stuck in a very hot and humid men's bathroom with 60 girls! I don't know how long we were actually stuck in there but it was definitly long enough! Praise the Lord that the tornado turned away from the campus and everyone was kept safe.
